Phaseolus vulgaris var. nanus
Yielding dry bean with tasty, bright red kernels (Vartenfund Genbänkle e.V.).
This exciting regional variety has been cultivated in Auenwald near Backnang for several generations and was found by the Genbänkle association as part of the “Variety Detectives” campaign. The intense red kernels are prepared into “beans and spaetzle”, for example. The variety is undemanding and robust and grows around 40 cm high. The pods are approx. 10-15 cm long and are harvested when dry in September and October. The kernels have a pleasant taste with a slightly sweet aroma and can also be frozen well after a short blanching.
